The Flaunt/Hennessy mansion party brought out several celebrities including Bill Maher, Young Jeezy, Sal Masekela & Spinderella while Prince’s resident DJ Rashida killed em with soul classics and R&B grooves.

The next day on Saturday, Southern California was represented well at the Alliance for Lupus Research Walk for Dilla. The “Jay Walkers” team was an outstanding success! That next night Alicia Keys performed to just a couple hundred people at a private J Records release party at a sound stage near Downtown LA. She was impeccable as she sung songs from her many hit albums. It was a great weekend in La La Land indeed 🙂

We started the week Monday night where the Marksmen presented their weekly Turntable Unplugged at Tillmans Soul Lounge where Jay-Z & Diddy were chillin while DJ OP & Maya Azucena sang beautifully, as always rockin it. Later at SOBs Rich Medina had his Afro Disco event celebrating the birthday of Fela Kuti.

Tuesday night began with a live show by Q-Tip with a strong performance, then we went to the TripleFiveSoul & event where the Cool Kids performed and Moby did a guest set in the basement. We ended the night again at Tillmans at Be Easy with DJ Center, Logan & Demby.

What is a Wednesday in the City without Little Ricky’s @ APT with resident DJ Rich Medina followed by a busy Thursday starting in the evening with the Annual Spectre CMJ Event this year with special guest DJ Premier. The Get Down with DJ Spinna was next in the LES followed by a night-cap back at APT with Atlanta’s deep house don DJ Kai Alce.

Friday we got to spend the entire day with the Mrs. Yancey aka Ma Dukes, mother of the great J Dilla, starting in the morning at her “Legacies” CMJ panel and then the evening Stones Throw/Fat Beats event with Percee P, J-Live, Smif-N-Wessun and then our highlight of the week at Turn It Up! J Dilla Tribute with Pharoahe Moche, DJ Dummy and DJ Soul. View Photos

It’s that time of year when 2K Sports releases their award winning NBA basketball game. Outside of the obvious graphic, rosters and AI overhaul, the soundtrack is best known for displaying Hip Hop Classics, along with some of the best Underground Hip Hop around.

This year, 2K Sports teamed up and let Dan “The Automator” Nakamura produce one of the best 2K Sports track listings in a long time. The likings of the late J Dilla, Common and Run-DMC, just to name a few. Because we are Dilla fans, we could be a bit bias. You cannot beat ruling the Slam Dunk Contest on the Vegas Strip listening to E=MC2.
