After three soulful weeks with the likes of, Anthony David, Purple St. James (YahZarah) and N’dambi, this year Heineken and Urban Organic decided to end their Red Star Soul series with a bang by inviting the 15 year hip hop vet, Common. Detroit got the chance to “find forever” for free at the elegant Renaissance Club on the Detroit Waterfront.

The onlookers got a chance to sample, L.A.’s soulful “lioness”, Teedra Moses as she performed select tracks from her debut LP, Complex Simplicity while setting the tone for the night. Raheem DeVaughn followed up with a high energy performance debuting his latest single, “Woman” from his upcoming November 27th release, “Love Behind the Melody”.

Common performed several new singles from his recent “Finding Forever” release and thanked Detroit for providing one the greatest producers of our time, J Dilla. He expressed his honor and respect of Dilla and their close relationship as his friend and roommate.

Heineken presented the 2007 Independent Achievers Award to Common on behalf of J Dilla. Which was followed by a performance of Thelonious with Slum Village’s T3 and drummer/producer Karriem Riggins to end the night.
